Common Behaviors Of Cats And What They Mean

How long have you owned a cat? Has it been for a day, a month, or a year? Even if it were only days or decades, perhaps you have noticed a cat’s behavior. Cats have their own strange acts. Several pet owners find it baffling when they see their cat acting in a different way. The problem is some people cannot understand their cat’s actions and this, later on, results to problems in keeping their pet healthy and happy. Though a cat’s actions can be a mystery at times, there are methods in which you can unravel the mysteries of common feline acts.

Occassionally, your cat may push a person or objects like furniture and equipment. The cat will, then, stroke its head on the person or object. This behavior is perhaps more obvious if you have a person who owns other animals or a person who is allergic to cats. The cat pushes and rubs so that it can apply a hint of saliva on the person or object. As soon as it does this, that means that person or stuff is marked as its property. This kind of cat behavior can be annoying for some people. However, for the kitty, it sees the person as somebody peculiar and extraordinary so it brushes its fur against the newcomers to establish it as part of its territory.

Marking a person new to your home with its saliva is advantageous for the cat. In this world, however, there are those with pet peeves and those allergic to cats. They will try to get rid of the saliva because it upsets them. If they succeed, they will rid themselves with the cat’s scent. But then, the cat will simply push, rub and lick the guest once more if it cannot identify this individual as its possession. This will quite pose as a problem for the person with allergies or with pet peeves. However, you have to explain to the guest what the cat is trying to accomplish and that this is some sort of welcoming for the guest by the feline. Ask the individual to allow the cat to rub itself on the person. Once the cat does its concern, it will leave your guest alone eventually.

Hunting is a basic for cats. Have you seen your cat do strange movements and create strange sounds while peeking out the window? Do not be shocked. This is just your cat on its toes ready to hunt. If your cat sees a cat or some movement, it will readily be on its paws. Again, do not be alarmed because it is usual for cats.

There are people who think it baffling why cats pounce at objects. Cats love pouncing. This should be expected because for them pouncing is a form of playing. If you see your cat moving like this, do not prevent it from doing so. Otherwise, you may have quite a problem later on. You and your cat may finish up with trouble breaking a lot of stuff in the house. One way to handle how your kitty plays is to purchase toys that it could pounce on. Sometimes a yarn or a string is sufficient for it to play with. Have the yarn or string roll on the floor so that your cat can run after and pounce on it.

You will manage your cat better if you know how to discern your kitty’s body language. Giving food and arranging litter are not the only things you can do for your cat. Though cats cannot talk, if you pay attention to your pet’s activities, you will get to know what it wants to say.
